Sweetness!

A sweet summer day seems like a memory as we in the Great Lakes get just the tiniest feel for what the east coast must have gone through last night and today with Hurricane Sandy. It is incredibly windy outside and so overcast. A dreary day that I thought I'd brighten up with a cheery layout!
This sweet little sunshine is my niece and goddaughter. The sketch is based on a Midweek Mojo from Scrapbook Steals quite a while back. I used the ever cheery Echo Park along with some girly doilies to complete my layout.

It is hard to believe that next month will start the Thanksgiving and Christmas preparation. I've already listened to a few instrumental holiday songs. The Christmas music officially starts in our house on Nov. 1st. I have way too many cd's to start any later. And, now that I've discovered Pandora, the possibilities are endless.
Pinterest has been fun to peruse lately as well while I look for any fun little projects to do. Though, in honestly, I am more of a pinner and not as much of a do-er! Unless, it is scrapbook related of course!
Since baking is another passion of mine, I thought I'd share a recipe today as well. I found this blog which had a recipe for some no bake cookies. What made me really want to make them was the name of the cookie...Holycraptheseareamazing cookies!<----click to see photos and the original recipe that I pasted below. My family really enjoyed them and I am considering adding them into the Christmas Cookie Queue. (The most difficult thing was telling my kiddos the "official" name of the cookie and then having them ask to eat one. Since the "c word" is a no-no in our house, we had to make some house rules on what we could call these little bites of happiness.) At any rate, I hope that you have the chance to enjoy them as well. Thanks for stopping by today!

Holycraptheseareamazing Cookies
(as pasted from blog mentioned above)

Ingredients
(Makes about 3 dozen cookies)

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 jar (18 oz ounce) peanut butter, crunchy or smooth (I like creamy.)
  • 6 cups corn flakes
  • 3 oz good quality chocolate of your choice
Directions

  1. Combine sugar and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Place over medium-high heat and stir until the mixture comes to a full boil. Remove from heat and stir in the whole jar of peanut butter. Mix well.
  2. Add corn flakes to a large bowl. Pour peanut butter mixture over corn flakes and mix well, taking care to coat all of the corn flakes.
  3. With a tablespoon or cookie scoop, scoop out and form into 1-2 inch balls, depending on your preference, and place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.
  4. Put the chocolate in a small bowl and melt in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir until smooth.
  5. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookies.
  6. When cooled, eat these cookies with reckless abandon. Be careful, though. We wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt!

Join Me?

November is just about here. As you may have noticed by the date in my last posting, I've been neglectful. Life has been kicking my tail lately. Not anything in particular, just getting so caught up in the every day that I fail to notice the things that really matter. I am really hoping that this little project will change that. It's something I've been wanting to do anyway, now it will just be official!

(For every little detail on the project, click HERE!)

Join me if you'd like to! Let me know if you plan to in the comments. I love to read what you have to say. I think I will start a little early and one thing that I am grateful for today is the fact that I don't need to fear for my immediate family's safety as Hurricane Sandy makes landfall out East. If any of you are on the East coast, please take care and stay safe. You will be in my prayers!

Greetings!

Since I have the supplies, and I've looked at the price of cards recently, I haven't purchased a card in over a year. I've been making them and the process has really grown on me! Below are a few of my recent creations.
This card used a stamp set that I found on clearance at Hobby Lobby as well as some scraps that I had laying out. This color combo completely makes me smile so I am hoping that it does the same for the recipient!

This card was made for a challenge that required the use of many different patterned papers. I liked the eclectic look to it and the phrase at the front kind of represents that craziness of the patterns all together. Oh, I should add, that the pattern idea was inspired by my parents' tile bathroom tiled floor in their 1940's home!

This one was a quick one (which also didn't photograph well). My grandfather has been living in a nursing home for about two months now. The transition as has been quite an adjustment for many people along with my Grandpa. He loves to receive mail so although I visit him weekly, I still send a card each week just so that he has something to open and look at. I love to visit and have him show me the cards he has received from others so I know he appreciates mine as well!

So, those are the greeting cards that I have made this week. I have a few more that I need to send out so I know that there will be more card making on the horizon for me. After pricing out cards for nearly $4 per card, I am happy to craft one with love! Until next time...
